This is the final CSA share of the season.
Thank you, everyone, for a great season. It seems like so long ago that we put those first seeds in the ground, and I guess it was! Lots has happened since you first sent in your registration forms. I hope you enjoyed your vegetables as much as we enjoyed growing them for you. In addition to growing the vegetables, one of my favorite farm responsabilities is taking photos of the farm and writing this newsletter. Here are some photos, shown in chronological order, that I think capture the rhythm of this season. Enjoy!

Spring seems like it will never come.

And there is plenty of time to play in the drifts.

Then the hens arrive and there are plenty of chores to do.

But also plenty of delicious eggs to eat!

Finally it's time to plant the seedlings in the greenhouse.

And before you know it, our crew arrives to plant them in the ground.

By July the fields are lush.

And the chickens are happy in the pasture.

Matt keeps the kids busy picking broccoli.

Peggy picks packs of peppers.

Jeff keeps the harvest crew motivated and upbeat throughout the fall rains.

Soon the weather turns chilly and we are carving pumpkins.

The popcorn starts to dry out and it's time for the final harvest of the season!

Eggs and Turkeys Available at the Farm Pickup this Week
  • Avery, our 8-year-old, will be selling eggs from his small flock of pet hens. The eggs are $5/dozen.
  • A fellow organic farmer, Nick Batchelder, will be selling frozen pastured turkeys at the farm pickup. His turkeys are raised on organic feed, supplemented with spent grain from a nearby microbrewery, and they spend their daylight hours roaming the open range. The birds are processed on-farm. They weigh between 13 and 18 pounds and cost between $60 and $75. Pre-ordering is not necessary. For more info, call Nick at (815)-354-3227.
